For other meanings, see Goddess (disambiguation).

The Red Goddess is the supreme ruler of Hell and the main antagonist of Agony / UNRATED.

Description[]

The Lady of Hell appears as a nude, incredibly attractive young woman who likes to cloak herself in the still-warm blood of freshly slain martyrs. Her “hair” is little more than thin strips of skin flayed from her skull and peeled back to give the semblance of long, flowing tresses. Her head is adorned with a luminescent Halo, which bears a resemblance to those worn by the Angels of Heaven. Her eyes are red, with Irises as black as the void between the stars.

The Red Goddess has existed since the dawn of time, preying upon creation in an effort to expand her influence and increase her already formidable power. As the Queen of Hell, she finds immense enjoyment in watching the torment of the damned, and in the arms of her Succubi consorts

Nature[]

The Red Goddess is seductive, manipulative, conniving, and lustful. She enjoys the suffering of others in a very sexual sense, often pleasuring herself upon witnessing a sufficiently brutal act of cruelty or depravity. She also seems to be obsessed with Nimrod, and has plans for him that can either humiliate him, or make him eternally loyal to Her. She enjoys Nimrod's suffering more than that of any other soul in Hell, and seduces Nimrod at almost every opportunity. Though he has betrayed her in the past, she seems to hold no ill will toward him (despite the suffering she caused him) and does seem to harbor some fondness and care for him and a hope for his success.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

The art of the Red Goddess.

During the Early reign of Nimrod, the Red Goddess began to take interest in the young king and his lust for power, admiring his eventual goal of conquering the skies and ruling the Heavens. She assisted Nimrod by granting him dark Magics and demonic powers possessed by few others upon the earth, transforming him into the first half-breed to walk the Earth. Then she sought to test him, to see if he could maintain his resolve in the face of terrible hardship, and thus sent him to the peak of a mountain, the intense cold of which no mortal man or woman could possibly hope to survive.

Against all the odds, the young king survived his ordeal, his will unbroken. This impressed the Red Goddess, and she granted him even greater power as a reward. Nimrod returned to his kingdom with divine strength on his side.

Slowly but surely, the Red Goddess became fond of Nimrod, his dedication to her earning him a small fraction of her affections. She was so enraptured by him that, for a time, the young kings ulterior motive went completely unnoticed; to take over Hell for himself, and make her into his own personal slave. However, She soon become aware of his plans.

Enraged by this betrayal, She sought to punish Nimrod Herself by inflicting immense physical suffering upon him in the living world, but she soon discovered that Nimrod had been poisoned by one of his own slaves, and the king was on his deathbed. Ascending from the depths and emerging upon the face of the Earth, She smote Nimrod for his arrogance, claiming his soul and sending him to the depths of Hell.

Agony / UNRATED[]

The Red Goddess is a summodeistic feminine being: the one goddess for the entire civilized world. She was known by countless names and forms, worshipped as a different goddess across the world, such as Inanna of Sumeria, Ishtar of Babylon, Isis of Egypt, Lilith of the Hebrews, the Whore of Babylon by the Christians, etc. Her true identity remains obscure - however, the damned souls of Hell refer to Her as the "Red Goddess" and Her demonic minions refer to Her as their Queen.

The Red Goddess has a "consort,” the Beast. They together rule Hell as it’s supreme monarchs, but She is the one who is truly in charge, ruling the realm as the Queen of Hell, since the Beast is nothing but a mindless monster.

Notes[]

  • The Red Goddess Herself is directly known as Babalon, a goddess found in the Mystical System of Thelema, which was established in 1904 with English author and occultist Aleister Crowley's writing of The Book of the Law, her name being later given in other works.
    • Babalon's idea is taken from the biblical Whore of Babylon, a female figure and also place of evil mentioned in the Book of Revelation in the Bible. The Red Goddess is drenched with blood as Her "dress style" and sometimes seen holding a chalice, similar to the Whore of Babylon's description who also held the chalice and wore scarlet (although with purple colors) dressing matching the color of blood. The Red Goddess Herself riding the Beast seen during the Normal Ending is also a nod to the Whore of Babylon riding on the Beast of the Apocalypse who also in scarlet color possessing multiple heads and horns.
  • The Red Goddess refers to "mother of infinite father" who left Heaven after the fall of Man. This implies that She is the mother of God Himself.
  • Succubi (and likely, Incubi, if they ever exist in the world of Agony) are Her loyal servants who have been referred as "the eyes of the Goddess".
  • The Red Goddess is based on various pagan goddesses and mythical female figures, whom she have been identified with throughout the game.
  • Her name is likely a reference for a book of the same name, The Red Goddess. This book talks about the Babalon goddess, paganism, sex, and drugs.
  • In the Succubus Prologue, it's stated that the Red Goddess is bisexual.
